Queens New York: Recently the Imo State Congress of America held its 6th Annual International convention in Queens New York.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The event was widely attended by Imo state indigenes (and their friends and relatives) in America, Nigeria, as well as other parts of the Diaspora. The convention was a 3-day event involving such programs as the Women Caucus, ISCA meeting, Political Expo, Zonal Meetings, and Gala night. The convention was mainly highlighted by the traditional “Iwa-Akwa” (rite of passage ceremony) and the Ada Imo beauty pageant which was won by the beautiful Casandra Iwule from New York. There were dignitaries in attendance including the Most Right Reverend Dr. Anthony Obinna, the Arch Bishop of Owerri Diocess who delivered the keynote address. Lunch speaker was Atty. Kemnagum Ken Okorie. The event also featured star performance by Nigerian singing sensation Niga Raw as well as other traditional performances. Pictures by Bart Ogbonna & C. Iwule.
