Nigerian Igbo Union in Stockholm, Sweden Hold New Yam Festival (Iriji Ndi Igbo) 2016
Stockholm Sweden: Recently, the Nigerian Igbo Union in Stockholm, Sweden held their New Yam Festival (IRIJI NDI IGBO) 2016 which took place on October 22nd, 2016, at the SUBTOPIA ALBY: ROTEMANNAVAGEN, NORSBORG in Stockholm Sweden. The event was attended by dignitaries, friends and well-wishers of members of the Union.
HOW IT HAPPENED: After the arrival and settlement of guests, some dignitaries were invited to the High Table. There was opening prayer and presentation of Kolanuts. Chairman of the Union, Chief Charles Onuora (Ochiri-Ozuo 1 of Sweden) gave the welcome address. The main event – the blessing and eating of the new yam was observed according to Igbo tradition with elders and traditional leaders presenting the new yam to the audience. Dinner was served followed by entertainment and cultural performances by the Youths and by the Ladies/wives of the members led by Lolo Ify Onuoha (of Ify fashion world & African butik Sweden).
