ANNOUNCEMENT: Connaught Hospital, Freetown, Sierra Leone to Receive Brand New High-end Ultrasound Scanner
New York to Freetown, Sierra Leone: Connaught Hospital, Freetown, Sierra Leone to receive a Brand New High-end Ultrasound Scanner from African Views. Connaught Hospital was first opened in 1912 by the Duke of Connaught, Prince Arthur. President Kabbah re-opened the hospital on May 5, 2006, alongside the Princess Christian Maternity Hospital (PCMH). Dr. Olivette Buck, one of the first in line of duty, who tested positive for Ebola on 9 September 2014 and died on 14 September 2014 she was admitted to Connaught Hospital. By 23 September 2014, out of 91 health workers known to have been infected with Ebola in Sierra Leone, approximately 61 had died. Connaught Hospital played a center role. The ultrasound Machine is used to see internal body structures such as tendons, muscles, joints, blood vessels, and internal organs. Its aim is often to find a source of a disease or to exclude any pathology. The practice of examining pregnant women using ultrasound is called obstetric ultrasound and is widely used. The Equipment was donated by the International Medical Women Association of Australia in partnership with the Rotary of Australia facilitated by Professor Gabrielle Casper, Head, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, school of Medicine, Sydney, and it was organized by our very own Dr Padmini Murthy Professor / Global Health Director NYMC SHSP, MWIA Addl NGO Rep to United Nations Governing Councillor International Health Section APHA.
