Nigeria is Africa’s largest and the world’s 20th largest economy. Rich in high-quality oil and other minerals, approximately 70% of Nigeria’s 181 million people live in poverty. The sharing of wealth is a result of the provision of special privileges and subtle monopolies over land and its resources to a favored few. Gordon Abiama details the causes of inequality in Nigeria and discusses practical steps to bring about a more equitable sharing of the nation’s wealth.

Journalist Gordon Abiama is based in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. He is the Director of Africa Center for Geoclassical Economics, a non-governmental organization that is dedicated to sustainable development practices. Mr. Abiama is also a Member of the World Council on Renewable Energy (WCRE).
