The Nigerian Lawyers Association, together with the African Cultural Alliance of North America Inc., invites the public to a roundtable discussion entitled “Comprehensive Immigration Reform: How it Affects the African Community”.

The proposed bill passed by the U.S. Senate addresses undocumented immigrants and a path to citizenship, legal immigration, border security, and employer hiring. Now that the debate over immigration reform has moved from the Senate to the House, it is time to bring the debate to our community and discuss how the current system is or is not working for us, and what implications the proposed reform will have for our families and businesses.

Agenda topics include an overview of the current immigration system; a summary of the proposed federal comprehensive immigration reform legislation; the current status of the proposed reform legislation; and how immigration reform will affect the African community. Speakers will include not only immigration attorneys, but also community activists proficient in immigration policy.

Date: Tuesday, December 3, 2013
Venue: U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, 500 Pearl Street, 8th Floor, New York, N.Y. 10007
