Nigerian Lawyers Association Dinner 2007 at Crown Plaza in New York

New York, New York: The Nigerian Lawyers Association, USA, recently held its annual Merit Award Dinner  (at the Crown Plaza Hotel) in New York honoring Dr. Kase Lawal. The event was attended by other dignitaries including Attorney General of Nigeria, Michael Aondoakaa, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, former UN Under-Secretary and Nigeria's immediate past Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Aminu Wali,   Mr. Ibrahim Auwalu, Nigeria's Consul General in New York, Obiageli "Oby" Ezekwesili, Nigeria's former Minister of Education and Vice President, (Africa) at the World Bank, among others.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The event commenced with a cocktail reception on the third floor lobby at Crown Plaza hotel. After lawyers and guests have intermingled for a while, the event moved into the banquet hall, where MCs, Tinuade Awe and Emeka Chinwuba welcomed guests and invited Lisa Marie Soprano to sing the national anthems of Nigeria and the United States of America. NLA president, Bola Oloko gave the opening remarks. Filmmaker and NLA member, Oliver Mbamara was then invited alongside NLA board member, Francis Ononaji to preside over the entertainment session which featured a ten-minutes clip of the new African film by Oliver Mbamara titled SLAVE WARRIOR. This was followed by Dinner and keynote address by Obiageli "Oby" Ezekwesili,  Vice-President, (Africa) at the World Bank who stood in for Nuhu Ribadu. Dr. Kase Lawal who is the CEO of CAMAC international corporation then gave his acceptance speech. This was followed by special remarks by Attorney General of Nigeria, Michael Aondoakaa (SAN). NLA Vice-President, Kunle Deru gave the vote of thanks and the audience was then entertained by the music of DJ Paul through the morning hours.
