York, New York: The Celebrate Africa
Foundation recently held its 2006 annual celebration and awards gala
at the Tavern-On-The-green in Central park, New York City. The event
was attended by the President of Senegal, President of Madagascar,
the under-secretary for political affairs at the United nations,
several ambassadors and diplomats, and members of the public including
several Africans dominated by people of Senegal, the best
country award recipient. Our staff was there to bring you exclusive photo-coverage.

HOW
IT HAPPENED: Attendees
began gathering in earnest at Tavern-On-The-Green hall and before 7:00Pm
almost all the seats were taken. The Presidents of Senegal and
Madagascar as well as the Chairman of the occasion, Ambassador/Prof.
Ibrahim Gambari and Ted H. Jacobsen arrived in time as well. US
Congressman, Charlie Rangel was also in attendance. Dr. Onyeani
introduced the MC of the occasion Wallace Ford, Esq., who took over the
moderation of events thenceforth. Dinner was served while a video
address by the President of the World bank was shown followed by an
extract from the film "Africa Open For Business." The producer
and Director of the film, Ms. Carol Pineau gave a brief speech about the
film. The awards of the night were then handed out to the recipients.
First the "Humanitarian and Philanthropic Award, 2006" was
handed out to Chief Theodore "Ted" H. Jacobsen, Secretary of
the New York State Labor Council. Chief Jacobsen then gave his
appreciation speech. The "Best African Country Award,
2006" was then handed out to the President of Senegal, Abdoulaye
Wade who received the award on behalf of Senegal and also addressed the audience. Chief
Dr. Annie B. Martin gave the closing remarks.
