New
York, New York: The Nigerian family of Anusionwu, based in New
York, recently held a thanksgiving party in celebration of the safe
return of their son, Donatus Obinna Anusionwu Jr. from Iraq and
his promotion to the rank of a Captain. In attendance were members of
the diplomatic corps, the United States legislature, royal
personalities, and many relatives, friends, and well wishers. Members
of our staff were there to bring you the exclusive coverage.

CELEBRATION:

HOW IT
HAPPENED: The event commenced with the arrival of guests
including members of the legislature, diplomatic corps, traditional
chiefs, friends, relatives and more. The hall was quickly filled. Event
MC, Dr. Ifeanyi Azubuike then invited members of the high table to their
positions and the opening ceremonies were observed including the
presentation of kola nut led by Chief Ben Nnabuife and Chief Okorie.
Captain Donatus Anusionwu was ushered in and he took his seat with
dignitaries at the High table which included Prof. Dr. George Obiozor,
Nigeria's Ambassador to the United States (delivered keynote speech);
Prof. Ibrahim Gambari UN Under-Secretary-General/Special Adviser on Africa;
Chiefs James Obi, Ben Nnabuife, OKorie, and others. The Captain later
joined his parents, Chief Donatus Anusionwu, "Akurulo 2nd of Amike" (the wealth that reaches home)
and Lolo Justina Anusionwu, "Okwere na di 1 of Amike" (the one who believes in marriage)
for a dance session. There were presentation of several awards to
Captain Donatus Obinna Anusionwu, including the ones by Peoples Club of
Nigeria International and Sacred Heart Prayer Group. Chief Ben Nnabuife
also conferred the title of "Agha-eri" (he that is not
conquered by war) on Captain Donatus Obinna Anusionwu. Drinks and Dinner
were served all night and guests danced away till the early hours of the
next day.
